Cycles
It is amazing to me that we can know exactly where the moon will be in the sky at any moment, past, present, or future. Based on that relationship with our lunar partner, we can also know when the tides will reach their highs and lows on any given day. (And, although it may be mostly anecdotal, every teacher or nurse knows when there is a full moon!)
Being mindful of this information can help us make decisions every day. For instance, while kayaking this past weekend, we needed to know the timing of the tides to be able to efficiently navigate our way up and down the Ashley River. When you are paddling against an out-going tide, it can be exhausting.
There are other predictable and measurable patterns in our lives that may not be as obvious. In our relationships, dynamics ebb and flow that are critically important to understand if we are to have meaningful connections with each other. When we take time to truly comprehend the people around us, we can see the flow and cycle of their lives. With this knowledge, we can seek to align ourselves in mutually beneficial ways to interact, support, and encourage one another. Intentionally building deeper understandings of each other enables us to live each day together with purpose and success.
