Fishing

I like to fish. There is something that truly resonates in me when I am out casting a line. Fishing has also served as a major metaphor in various ways in my life. Here are a few things that come to mind:

·       You never know what you are going to catch on any given day, but if you have a line out, something exciting can happen.

·       What you catch depends on where you fish, what equipment you have, and what bait you use.

·       Your tackle box tells a lot about you.

·       If you caught the same size fish on every cast, you would quickly tire of the process. It’s the diversity and uncertainty that makes things interesting.

·       Sometimes the best fishing is in miserable weather. For those who have courage to brave the elements, there can be great reward.

·       Learn and grow from the one that got away.

·       Fishing alone can be meaningful and reflective, but fishing with others creates the opportunity for greater joy.

·       One of the secrets to enjoying fishing is to learn to appreciate anything you catch.

I suspect that fishing may not connect with some the way it does with me, so I invite you to substitute your activity of choice that could represent living our lives. Sometimes the lessons of life are hidden in the simple things.
