Small Beginnings
One of the things I love most about the Lowcountry is the live oak trees. These massive and majestic giants seem to keep an ancient accounting of all that has passed over the centuries. They spread their glorious arms out as if to embrace all those who come near. Strangely, each of these marvels has a very humble beginning, starting off as an acorn about the size of a marble. Packed into this tiny seed is the blueprint for one of nature’s greatest gifts.
In the same way, most amazing things begin in simple and diminutive ways. Every human being has come from a microscopic conception. Every life-changing invention started out as a flicker of an idea. Every institution or business was created from a dream of someone. Everything must start somewhere, usually in an inconspicuous manner.
Sometimes it takes a little faith to see the mighty oak in the small acorn. We have to look beyond what is tangibly in front of us and believe that something much grander is coming. Like the acorn, within each of us is something precious and unique. Let’s give each other time to allow ourselves to become what we are meant to be.
