Systems
The body has an amazing system to heal wounds and injuries. I won’t pretend to fully understand how everything works, but here are a few things I have learned. When we get a cut, the body immediate responds by sending a variety of types of cells to stop the bleeding and fight infection. An unseen communication system tells the surrounding tissues to work together to build replacement parts for the damaged area. While it takes time, when the body is healthy and active, the process works incredibly well.
It is the same way with humans collectively. When we are at our best, people respond rapidly to help each other during difficult situations such as accidents, sickness, natural disasters, or the loss of loved ones. In those moments, we feel called to step up with the skills and resources that we can provide. We feel a greater sense of purpose from doing so.
Extending the parallel a bit further, there are underlying forces at work that are guiding the body and the world itself. We can ignore them and even fight them with ignorant and destructive behavior. However, when we are attuned to the beneficial systems operating around us, we empower our bodies to maintain a healthy balance. This enables us to be ready to respond to others as needed at any given moment. When we do this, we find a pathway to meaningful and joyful lives.
